The promised rain, welcomed Weekly & Warkton thirds to Compton Park for the seconds final game of the 2016 season. Recent dry weather meant that if the rain stopped, play would certainly be feasible. Just when the notion of an abandonment was nearing reality, the rain stopped! Though the opposition it appeared were not keen to start the game, the Cooks positive attitude, that the show must go on (whatever the weatherman says!) was rewarded with the start of a 30 over aside game.
Cogenhoe won the toss and batted in blustery conditions. In the play possible the Cooks lost 4 wickets with Ben (53) and Jack (37) both making meaningful contributions to the total of 141. Rain closed in and tea was taken in the hope of a resumption, which unfortunately due to the steady persistent rain did not materialise.
The weather conditions won the day, not allowing the Cooks to end this campaign with a victory. Although relegation is the conclusion from this season’s endeavours, all the players and the skipper have never allowed spirits to drop. The seconds have a nucleus of players young and old who can build from this experience to ensure this year is just a blip in the progression of recent seasons.
