Cogenhoe Cricket Club has always been a supporter of good causes close to the hearts of our members. The club annually supports the fundraising efforts made by Suzanne Tarpley and Maggie Irvine on behalf of MacMillan nurses and in 2008 for the first time decided to nominate a chosen charity that the club would support. That charity was Marie Curie and thanks to Phil Whiteman the club helped Marie Curie by collecting used printer ink cartridges which were recycled by Marie Curie.
As many of you will be aware 2008 also saw the club hold its first ever charity quiz night and raise over £200 for various charities and as our chosen charity was Marie Curie and the winning side captained by Gareth Goddard handed over a cheque for £150 to Marie Curie and the club has received a very nice letter from the charity thanking everyone for their efforts. The Jennifer Trust and The Air Ambulance also benefited from our quiz night. We at Cogenhoe Cricket Club are very keen to offer our support to charitable causes and so have decided that each year we will choose to support a different charity which is close to the heart of our members. I am delighted to announce that the club’s chosen charity for the next five years at least will be The Jennifer Trust. The Jennifer Trust was nominated by Chris and Julie Mason and was a unanimous choice when put before the committee. Below are just a few words from David and Louise Towler about the Jennifer Trust and how you can find out more information about the charity. We will of course keep you up to date via this website and the village Parish magazine of all our fundraising efforts. Our Charity Quiz night held on Friday 30 th September 2011 was another tremendous success with£210 raised for four different good causes. The winners Matt Morrissey`s The Burkes and Hairs carried off the Pat Whiteman Trophy and donated their £120 winnings to the Air Ambulance. The Chairmans6 supported a charity close to Matt Golbys heart Kidsaid a local charity that relies totally on donations so it can help local children suffering from lifes trials and tribulations such as family bereavements, bullying, domestic violence and neglect. Two past champions the Towler and Mason families and Gareth and Dan`s Bar Flies finished joint third with their £15 winnings going to the Jennifer Trust and a Dementia Charity. Along with another quiz run by Gary Brough the club raise and donated £469.50 to charity in 2011. As uperb effort by all our members and supporters.

The Jennifer Trust for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) provides ‘Help for Today & Hope for Tomorrow’. It is the only national charity in the UK dedicated to both supporting people affected by SMA, and investing into essential research into causes, treatments and finding a cure for the condition.
SMA is a condition that affects the nerves in an area of the spinal cord. These nerve cells become damaged, breaking the link between the brain and the muscles. As a result, the muscles can’t be used and become wasted or atrophied.
Youth team member, Chris Towler, was diagnosed with SMA Type III a few years ago and Chris & his family are delighted that the club has chosen to support the Jennifer Trust this year.
