Indoor nets for the 2013 season got underway at Booth Lane College on Tuesday with an excellent turn out. Tom Smyth and Nick Lester showed the determination and desire we will need this coming Summer by warming up with a couple of shuttle sprints much to the bemusement of Matt Morrissey whose own winter fitness regime suffered a major set back when on arriving at the gym he found there were no parking spaces left!
But the session soon got going and messers Coleman, Lee-Brown and Golby were soon busy putting bat to ball. Golbers so much so that a lusty return to a Gareth Goddard delivery saw Gareth faced with a split second decision, attempt a caught and bowled or lose part of his lower leg! Now normally old safe hands would have snapped up the “sharp” chance but this time winter rustiness and the Golby power did for Gareth and much to the amusement of his fellow players the chance was spilled. There was no sign of the carnage caused to Gareths thumb as he calmly turned and showed the wonky digit to his detractors. It soon became apparent that Gareth injury deserved more concern and Nick Lester was quick to whisk him off to hospital where after after a couple of hours Gareth was back home and in his own words “2 X-rays and it was a dislocation. The laughing gas had me in fits, they couldn`t stop me! its back in place and no break”
So another great start to the year with skipper Dan McLaughlin already injured playing that silly egg chasing game and now Gareth maybe time to wrap the rest of the lads up in cotton wool until April
Dan Harris showing superb technique with thanks to Russ Coleman for shielding the glare from Dan`s growing forehead
