Another cracking year for Chris

Chris Towler followed up his very successful first year with the Northants Disability Team with another great season.

On Friday 19 th July a very healthy contingent from Cogenhoe Cricket Club turned up at the County Ground to support our very own Chris Towler who was playing for the Northants Disability Team against a Help for Heroes XI. We were extremely proud to sponsor Chris and his team mate Craig Fowler on what turned out to be a cracking evening.

Batting first Northants lost a couple of quick wickets before  finally getting to grips with the Help for Heroes attack. Eventually the moment we had all been waiting for when Chris made his way to the middle.

With Dad David pacing around like an expectant father, Chris coolly went about his business scoring 17 out of a total of 163 all out.

The Help for Heroes team got off to a dreadful start and at one point were 11-6 but they did manage to gain some respectability to the score finishing on 109 giving Northants victory by 54 runs.

Everyone from our club who attended was impressed with the passion, commitment and skill shown by both teams and we all had a superb evening and we have pledged our support for Chris and Craig for next years match.

All the money raised on the evening went to the Help for Heroes charity which benefitted to the tune of £2 500 , money raised by an entrance fee and a raffle where the signed Sachin Tendulkar bat went to a certain Louise Towler which rounded off a perfect evening for them.

Recently Chris took part in a tournament at Lords and below is his report

I believe you already have a photo of me at hit the top please let me know if you don’t or if you would like some more.
We played the annual tournament at lords. Its an indoor, 6-a-side, u16 tournament.
We played Essex first who have won the tournament before and fielded a strong side with many of their county players playing. We bowled first and put in an ok performance but needed to chase a big total. We batted beautifully only losing one wicket (wickets = 4 runs to the other team) and ran well between the wickets and the result was a reasonably comfortable win.
Next we faced reigning champions Middlesex on their home ground who beat us to win the tittle last year. We also had to play with a Visual Impaired ball which played to their strengths. Despite this we took 5 wickets meaning we were looking good for the rest of the game. Despite some average batting our bowling performance meant that we we’re always on top and we recorded our second win.
Finally we played Gloucestershire, with a clean sweep firmly on our mind we dominated with the ball and in the field leaving us only four net runs behind. We batted sensibly and ensured that Gloucestershire never had a chance and that we had a 100% win record in the tournament.
